STILL
LIFE SERIES
I call these new sculptures in iron and
glass Still Lifes because they
represent a reaction I have concerning
a placement of craft objects
in our modern-day society. I try to
use materials in a challenging and
opposing manner:
glass tablecloths, steel plant stems, glass flowers.
and aluminum shadows.
I also finish the glass vessel in a way that
makes it appear to be
ceramic or stone.
I enjoy playing with the juxtaposition
of the different elements
used in the sculpture in an attempt to give
them a feeling of being
precariously balanced. If a group of objects,
such as a vase with
a flower sitting on a table, is slightly
off balance, it evokes an
unsettling response from the viewer.
I try to develop this feeling
in the viewers and try to get them to
stop and think for a moment.
